This is the Right Bank’s version of La Grande Épicerie (part of Bon Marché department store on the Left Bank). Galeries Lafayette department store has been an anchor in the busy shopping district that’s only a short walk from Opéra Garnier since the mid-nineteenth century. But one peek inside the food hall proves that their merchandising prowess is completely up-to-date.
If looking for gift items, edible souvenirs, or today’s lunch or dinner–you’ll be hard-pressed NOT to find a surplus of goodies that delight the taste buds. Galeries Lafeyette’s gourmet hall hosts several highly regarded specialty makers. For example, the pastry makers Dalloyau and Japanese-inspired Sadaharu Aoki, chocolatier Jean-Paul Hévin, and others, have their own dedicated boutiques near the front.
Step farther in and you’ll find more food kiosks, such as Eric Kayser breads, that offer counter seating. These are especially popular at lunchtime.
Continue walking deeper back to find the produce and refrigerated sections, plus well-stocked shelves of non-perishable delights, where the well-heeled come to shop for their provisions. About 70% of the products are French in origin, and the rest from around the world.
Didn’t have a chance to stop at Angelina’s on rue de Rivoli for its famously rich hot chocolate? Not to worry. You can buy bottles of it here…and so much more.

The Galeries Lafayette have moved their gourmet foods across the street, along with their home furnishings. They now occupy several floors and offer even more selection (if that’s possible). However, it seems somewhat disjointed and requires several escalator trips to see it all – versus roaming around leisurely at the other location. That said, I will still be spending money there!
Thank you so much for letting me know. I will pass along word via a new blog post. Thanks again! ~Marjorie
