Le Marche Rue D’Aligre
Rue d’Aligre from rue Crozatier to rue de Charenton, 12th arr.
closest Métro stop; Ledru-Rollin
Tuesday to Sunday 8am to 1:30pm
(see pp. 155-161 of Markets of Paris, 2nd ed.)
This market actually combines three markets in one: a pedestrian street market that runs along rue d’Aligre (Le Marché rue d’Aligre), an historic covered market at the center (Le Marché Couvert Beauvau), and a flea market that spreads out behind the square at place d’Aligre.
All three can easily be covered in the same outing. It’s a cinch to get to this market from anywhere you might be staying in Paris (a short stroll from the Ledru-Rollin Métro stop), but it feels like a world apart from markets in the very center of the city.
There are numerous good restaurants and a fun wine bar nearby, ready to offer refreshment after shopping.

Do you mean it is a scary neighborhood? I do not like to take risks when traveling. What do you think? I would have to take the train from the 4th where I am staying and I manage the Metro quite well, but I don’t want to put myself in a situation where I could run into trouble. Hope you respond.
It’s not scary at all. I always feel perfectly safe. I think Brown Paper Belle meant “it’s not for everyone” in that the Aligre flea market does not have high-end items or genuine antiques; it’s a lot of bric-a-brac. You’ll be fine. Go and enjoy!
